PhD student position – Molecular Immunology Lab (Dr. Silvia Monticelli)
posted on 10.01.2018
A PhD student position is open in the lab of Dr. Silvia Monticelli at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Bellinzona, Switzerland (www.irb.usi.ch/molecular-immunology), affiliated to the Università della Svizzera italiana, to join projects aimed at understanding mechanisms of regulation of gene expression in immune-mediated processes.
Description. The research topic concerns the study of transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in cells of the immune system. The general goal is to extend our knowledge of the mechanisms that regulate immune cell differentiation and functions and to disclose networks of interaction between epigenetic modifications, transcription factors, microRNAs and their targets. This project offers the opportunity to learn a wide range of techniques in cellular immunology and molecular biology, as well as to develop critical thinking. The PhD program is carried out in collaboration with Swiss and foreign universities and includes seminars, lessons, courses and an annual retreat.
Requirements. The successful candidate has recently obtained a Master degree in a field related to molecular/ cell biology/ immunology, has previous experience in a research lab and is fluent in spoken and written English. We are looking for someone responsible and meticulous, but also highly motivated, enthusiastic, eager to learn and with a strong interest in the fields of immunology and gene regulation.
Interested candidates should send their resume (including name and email address of two referees) and motivation letter by email to silvia [dot] monticelli [at] irb [dot] usi [dot] ch
Starting date for this position is Spring 2018.
Applications will be evaluated as they are received and until the position is filled.
